Our Shipping Practice is recognised as one of Malaysia’s strongest, and we are one of the few law firms in Malaysia with a dedicated shipping practice. Our lawyers have the capabilities and expertise to handle a full range of contentious and non-contentious shipping work in Malaysia and across the region.

We regularly act for marine underwriters, shipowners, shipyards, port operators, P&I Clubs, financial institutions, commodity traders, freight forwarders, and other shipping interests. We possess deep knowledge of the maritime industry and are able to provide timely and pragmatic solutions for our shipping clients.
The range of matters handled by our Shipping Practice include:
- “Dry” Shipping
Our lawyers handle all variety of “Dry” Shipping work, including charterparty disputes, bill of lading claims, and cargo claims. Our team is particularly noted for its expertise in handling highly technical petrochemical cargo contamination cases.
- “Wet Shipping
Our Emergency Response Team is highly experienced in handling casualties throughout the Asia Pacific region. The team excels at handling all issues arising from casualties, including salvage, general average, insurance, tonnage limitation, statutory / criminal liability, and environmental / pollution issues.
- Shipbuilding and Repair
Apart from drafting and advising on shipbuilding and ship repair contracts, our lawyers also handle litigation and arbitration disputes that arise from said contracts.
We have dealt with the construction of vessels and rigs in yards in China, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, as well as Rotterdam, and are frequently instructed to advise on defective design, defective construction, delays, negligent repair claims, and claims in tort.
- Ship Finance / Transactional Work
In addition to contentious work, we also offer clients a full range of shipping related corporate and advisor services, including drafting and advising on pooling arrangements, terminal service agreements, forward freight agreements, ship finance, and sale and purchase agreements.
Our lawyers are experts in ship finance work and has assisted multiple foreign banks set up their finance department in Malaysia.
- Marine Insurance
We act for various major hull and cargo underwriters, some of whom have instructed us exclusively on all their claims. On top of advising on policy liability and handling recovery actions, our lawyers also assist clients in drafting their standard terms of cover. We work really closely with clients on managing their claims to help them improve their loss ratios.
- Admiralty Disputes
Our lawyers are frequently instructed in arrests and maritime claims against vessels. Where vessels cannot be arrested in Malaysia, we work closely with foreign lawyers to effect arrests in the most advantageous jurisdictions.
